Rosary App

Since November 2022, I have worked in my free time to develop an app for praying the Rosary. There are several that already exist, but this app is different from the others because it has a much more modern feel to it, making it easier to focus on the content instead of struggling to navigate through the app. The app is available for download on iOS/iPadOS here.

Why a Rosary app?

The current offerings for Rosary apps are not particularly great. This is because a number of the apps have poorly-designed user interfaces, aren't actively developed, and do not conform to many of the ways that apps should be built for iOS. Additionally, I have yet to find another app that includes the fruits of the mysteries and prayers in both English and Latin. This isn't about "traditionalist" versus "progressive" Rosary apps, but rather building one that is, quite simply, Catholic. There is a beauty that the Rosary has had for hundreds of years, and if something like the Rosary has been around for that long, it's worth the effort and attention of building an app.

Even for those who are not Catholic, this app is a resource for learning about the Rosary and understanding what it is that Catholics and other Christians like about it. Praying the Rosary daily is a common practice for many people, so an app like this would serve to help not only to learn the Rosary, but to experience the joy of growing closer to Jesus Christ through the Blessed Virgin Mary. To understand more about why Mary is so important to Christianity, please see this post.

What features are available?

The core list of features are:

  • Access the prayers, mysteries, and fruits of the mysteries of the Rosary, all in one convenient location.
  • Prayers in Latin and various Marian prayers are available to use independent of praying the Rosary.
  • View a liturgical calendar and corresponding calendar event information for each memorial, feast, and solemnity.
  • Learn how to pray the Rosary with an interactive Rosary and a separate how-to guide.
  • Discover the history of how the Rosary came to be.
  • Change the app icon to suit your desired look.
  • Switch between dark mode and light mode, with support for overriding the system setting.

More features will be coming in the future!

How do I get this app?

This app is available for all iOS and iPadOS devices running at least iOS/iPadOS 16.1 and can be downloaded here.

There are no plans to make an Android app at this time.
